Privacy, Social Media, and Internet Security
Social Workers are always pondering the question use or not use when making the decision to integrate technologies such as social media, blogging, mobile apps, and networking into their professional lives. Social Media is a great a tool to quickly inform, organize, or mobilize large groups of people in wide spread geographical areas. However with any tool, lack of training on its capabilities can end disastrously for you. You wouldn’t attempt to use a chain saw without the proper training and safety equipment. Would you? Although social media seems less frightening, entities like employers, insurance companies, criminal and civil investigators, and many more are using sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin to compile information about you. Not to mention, Google and third party partners are also entitled to that information unless you take precautions to protect yourself. You can not protect your web image on social media sites, if you don’t understand how you are vulnerable.
