4 Must Have WordPress Social Media Plugins

Shane Atkins 4 years ago

If you’re into WordPress or blogging in general, you’re well aware that the only way to make a blog popular these days is by promoting your content using social media websites like Facebook and Twitter.  This list wordpress social media plugins will make sharing your content and growing your blog easier than you ever imagined.

Wibiya Social Share Bar   (This plugin is discontinued as of the end of 2013)

I just came across Wibiya’s social media sharing bar for WordPress this weekend, and was immediately impressed.  While the plugin is available for WordPress, it is also available for sites built on Joomla, Drupal, Tumblr, Blogger and dozens more.  The sharebar they provide is extremely eye appealing and has big beautiful share buttons that entice your users eyes into sharing.  Once setup, the bar can be customized for tons of different situations.  You can set to show for all visitors, new visitors or returning visitors only, along with at least 20 different options to customize your experience.  The best part of all, it is 100% free to use!

NOTE:  This plugin is available to download from the WordPress backend, but I would recommend getting it from their website, as you will need to follow their instructions and create your Wibiya rules before it will actually work.  I initially installed it directly from WordPress, and was a bit lost until I figured out that it won’t show up without a Path location (provided on Wibiya website) and after creating a rule (show to all visitors, new visitors only, etc).

Tweet Old Post

One of the best ways to promote your blog’s content is by using Twitter.  One thing you may have noticed though, is that if you’re not constantly sharing, Twitter users won’t be too interested in you.  Tweet Old Post is a plugin that allows you to automatically tweet posts from your WordPress blog without any effort at all.  Once installed, it can be configured to tweet your old content by specific category, posts or pages and even allows you to automatically add hashtags based on your WordPress tags and categories.

NextScripts: Social Networks Auto-Poster

This plugin is absolutely awesome, especially if you’re syndicating your content across multiple Web 2.0 platforms.  NextScripts’ plugin allows you to automatically post your new articles to your Web 2.0 accounts and currently includes the following options:

  • Blogger
  • Diigo
  • Delicious
  • Facebook
  • FriendFeed
  • Google+ (personal profile, but you will have to pay for this addon)
  • Instapaper
  • LinkedIn
  • LiveJournal
  • Plurk
  • Pinterest
  • StumbleUpon
  • Tumblr
  • Twitter
  • vBulletin
  • vKontake
  • WP Based Blogs
  • YouTube

The only two portions that aren’t free to post to are Google+ and Pinterest, as obviously due to API limitations, scripts posting to these types of profiles are a rarity, but if you have a few bucks laying around, it’s worth paying for.

Share Bar WordPress Plugin

This plugin is available just about anywhere, and there are plenty of competitors available that offer the exact same functionality.  This plugin, once installed, will float a customizable sharing toolbar to the left or right of your posts or pages.  It includes all of the social networks you’d expect, and scrolls down the page as your reader digs into your content, constantly reminding them that they are free to share your content whenever they like.  If you haven’t installed a floating social media toolbar, I would suggest checking out this option.

  • I’m totally digging the old blog poster for twitter but the floating social sharing widget is really annoying. Not being funny but even on your site 🙁
May be it’s because of my screen resolution but i cant read the left side of your post. Just a constructive critisism 🙂

    • Tweeting old posts plugin is one of my favorite plugins it’s so simple yet so effective.

Thanks for the feedback on the sharing buttons I’ll have them moved around right away.
