Thousands of businesses have a question mark above their head for this question:
Should I automate my Twitter DMs?. A simple question that many of you will have your own opinion on. In this blog post you’ll be learning whether you should automate your DMs and what reactions you’ll likely see.
What are Auto Twitter DMs?
If you’re new to the Twittersphere (Twitter world) an auto DM is a short message automatically sent to a Twitter user after they’they’ve following someone using auto DMs. There are many free tools if you search Google but before you do I suggest you carry on reading for my opinion on DMs.
The Positives to Twitter auto DMs
You’ll be able to get more clicks to your website which equal more sales. You can also start to create a relationship with a follower if you use a friendly thank-you for following message or you prompt them with an interesting question to answer.
The Negatives to Twitter auto DMs
Twitter is a social network where people are social. People go there to interact with people not to be spammed by a robot. People know they are being spammed and they will tend to unfollow the spammer and stray far away. In some cases Twitter accounts have been suspended as people have blocked and reported their accounts to Twitter for spamming people.
And lastly not that many people actually read their Twitter DMs with just 7% reading them daily and 13% reading them weekly.
DMs might get you a sale or two a month if you’re lucky but you’ll sacrifice your businesses creditability and many potential customers. And lastly your future on Twitter as you can get suspended by Twitter in the worst case scenario. A risk not taking in my opinion.
So I suggest you stay way clear of Auto DMs and instead just send your new followers a personal Tweet thanking them for following you. And give them an exclusive discount off your services/product. This will make your new follower feel really special and loved which will make them more likely to buy from you.
